| Mayor to declare "Police Week in Huntsville" |
HUNTSVILLE, AL (May 10, 2010) -- Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle will proclaim May 9th through May 15th as "Police Week in Huntsville" at a signing ceremony to be held on Wednesday, May 12th at 2:00pm at the Municipal Justice and Public Safety Center (815 Wheeler Avenue).
Numerous events are planned in recognition of National Police Week, which was kicked-off locally today when the Fraternal Order of Police, T.L. Blakemore Lodge #6, and Madison County law enforcement agencies presented a special Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony.
Tonight, Former Alabama running back Siran Stacy will be the guest speaker at the 10th annual Homicide Survivors candlelight vigil. That event is free and open to the public and begins at 6:30 p.m. at Big Spring International Park gazebo.
Also tonight, from 5-8pm, local officers will be at the Chili's in Jones Valley to help raise funds for the Fallen Officer's Memorial. All tips and donations will go to The Huntsville Police Citizen's Foundation. They will also be selling t-shirts, bricks, framed prints, and other engravings.
Several local officials will be attending National Police Week in Washington, D.C., including Deputy Chief of Police Mark Hudson. Media requests may be accepted for Chief Hudson during his trip to Washington, D.C..
