Mayor announces "Shop Huntsville First" campaign for holidays Local retailers join campaign in its second year, City TV channel, website to get "Shop Huntsville First" makeover |
HUNTSVILLE, AL (November 24, 2010) - Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle is again asking residents to do their part in shoring up sales tax dollars in the city by spending in Huntsville this holiday season. Alongside representatives from some of Huntsville largest shopping centers, Mayor Battle announced the second year of his "Shop Huntsville First" campaign. The campaign will remind Huntsville residents to shop, eat and play in Huntsville first.
In the coming days, a special logo designed to promote the campaign's message will appear on both the City of Huntsville's website (HuntsvilleAL.gov) and on the City's government television channel, Huntsville 1 (Channel 16 Comcast and Channel 42 Knology). Additionally, other vendors wishing to add the "Shop Huntsville First" logo to their website may do so by adding the code below:

By adding the code above it will then be displayed on your website, as shown below.

"We are asking all of our residents to shop in Huntsville over the holidays," said Mayor Battle. "We have a responsibility to be loyal to those retailers who have been loyal to us. In times like these, I believe that if Huntsville shoppers invest locally during the holiday season, it will lead to businesses investing more in Huntsville."
Mayor Battle went on to stress the importance of supporting the local businesses that have contributed to Huntsville's successes.
"This campaign is a way for us to ask our residents to invest in our successes - it's part of the cycle in investing in those that make our city successful."
Joining Mayor Battle at the kickoff of the "Shop Huntsville First" campaign were Doug Badia of the O&S Holdings and the Bridge Street Town Centre, Joe Black of CBL & Associates Properties and Parkway Place and Madison Square Mall and Donna Lamb of the Huntsville Downtown Development Initiative.
The Shop Huntsville First campaign was launched to curb a decline in sales tax revenue to the city of Huntsville during the past year. Huntsville sales taxes provide the funding for most basic city services - including street repairs, infrastructure and traffic signs; police and fire support; dollars for non-profit agencies like the Huntsville/Madison County Public Library; various arts programs and Huntsville City Schools.
