HUNTSVILLE, AL— Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle proclaimed February 23, 2009 as "Tory Green Day" in the City of Huntsville. Tory Green, an Eagle Scout for Boy Scouts Troop 400, was selected out of more than three million other scouts to deliver the National State of Scouting Address in Washington, DC. Green delivered the address in front of the U.S. Congress and also had the opportunity to meet with President Barrack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
During ceremonies at city hall, Mayor Tommy Battle signed a proclamation declaring Monday, February 23, 2009 as "Tory Green Day" in Huntsville.
"We are proud of all that you’ve accomplished and excited about the opportunities that are still in front of you," said Mayor Battle.
Green, a 17 year old senior at Lee High School, is the first Eagle Scout from Troop 400, a group which serves an area that includes public housing.
After high school, Green plans to attend Jacksonville State and major in political science. Green said that he hoped to become a Huntsville Police Officer after graduation and later become Huntsville’s new mayor.
After learning about Green’s political interests, Mayor Battle took the chance to respond.
"I’ll try my best to keep the seat warm for you."
