The Finance Department provides the citizens of Huntsville, elected officials, city departments and other parties financial services and financial management information.
The City of Huntsville administers six local taxes. Businesses and individuals engaging in taxable transactions are responsible for reporting certain information and paying the taxes directly to the city. Interest & Penalty Rates
1. Interest is assessed as follows:
a. For tax periods prior to January 1, 2003 - One percent (1%) per month with an additional One percent (1%) for each additional month a tax is not paid.
b. For tax periods subsequent to December 31, 2002 - interest is assessed on a variable quarterly rate established by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
2. The greater of Fifteen percent (15%) of any delinquent tax or Fifty dollars ($50.00) for failure to timely file.
3. Fifteen percent (15%) of any delinquent tax for failure to timely pay.

Is your customer a Huntsville resident?
Many businesses would like to know for purposes of collecting sales tax. You can refer to the 911 Street Directory, which the City accepts as the basis for taxing affected transactions.

The Bidders Application link, provided below, allows companies to register with the City of Huntsville to receive notification of formal bidding opportunities regarding specific commodities and services. Being a registered bidder signifies your interest in doing business with the City of Huntsville and does not constitute a contractual relationship. This notification service is currently delivered via the United States Postal Service, however, it is our intention to provide this notification service by email in the near future.

Complete the Internal Revenue Service Form W9 and Fax to (256)427-5059. YOUR APPLICATION CANNOT BE PROCESSED WITHOUT A COMPLETED W9. Once registered, it is your responsibility to Maintain Your Vendor Information.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: How do I find out about bidding opportunities?
A: GET ON THE BID LIST is a feature of this site whereby you can submit your application. You will be notified of pertinent opportunities.
Q: Is there a charge to be placed on the Bid List?
A: There is no charge to be placed on the Bid List. There may, however, be charges to obtain certain documents related to construction in which case the IFB will specify the details.
Q: Why do you need a bid bond? Can I submit a company check?
When will I get the bid bond back?
A: The Alabama Competitive Bid laws require a bid bond in the amount of 5% for any contract valued greater than $10,000. A company check is not an acceptable format for a bid bond. Acceptable formats are addressed in the General Terms and Conditions of the IFB/RFP docuemnts. Your bid bond will not be cashed unless you fail to honor your bid. Bid bonds are returned when the contract is awarded.
Q: Does the City have a set aside program for small, minority and disadvantaged businesses?
A: The laws of the State of Alabama do not allow set asides. We do have a Vendor Equality Policy whereby we insure equal access to business opportunities to all vendors. We encourage your participation.

Head south on Jefferson Street approximately 1 mile. Turn right onto Fountain Circle. FROM 231/431: Take the Clinton Street exit heading east approximately 1.5 miles and turn right on Church Street. Turn left at next light, Williams Avenue. First left is Fountain Circle.
