Indictments of HPD Officers
Huntsville, Alabama (May 13, 2008) On March 28, 2008, Officers Wesley Little and Ryan Moore were relieved of their duties and placed on Administrative Leave after a number of alleged policy violations were brought to our attention by several other City of Huntsville Police Officers.
After an internal investigation, these allegations were presented to the Madison County Grand Jury late last week. Today, our Department was notified that indictments had been issued by the Grand Jury. Both officers were arrested as a result and booked into the Madison County Jail. Officer Little has been charged with Attempt to Possess a Controlled Substance, Possession of a Firearm with an Altered Serial Number, Tampering with Physical Evidence and False Reporting to Law Enforcement Authorities. Officer Moore has been charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, and two counts of Attempt to Possess a Controlled Substance.
Both officers have been released on bond and will remain on Administrative Leave pending a City of Huntsville Personnel Hearing.
This is an unfortunate set of circumstances. However, the Huntsville Police Officers who came forward and reported these violations should be commended.
Department of Public Safety Director Rex Reynolds said “The investigation did not reveal any evidence that existing cases made by either officer were tainted by illegal planting of evidence. The Huntsville Police Department has always been vigilant in our disciplinary procedures and maintaining a professional organization.” The results of this investigation serve to prove that our Department takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and no one, regardless of his or her position is above the law.
Officer Wesley Little has been with the Department since 12/04/2006.
Officer Ryan Moore has been with the Department since 05/08/2006.
