    MISSION STATEMENT

    The mission of the Community Development Department is three-fold; stabilization of lower income neighborhoods, economic empowerment of lower income persons and/or of persons living in lower income neighborhoods, and providing assistance to the special needs population in our community.

    GOALS

    Neighborhood Stabilization

    Housing programs

    Rehabilitation of Owner-Occupied homes through our Deferred Home Maintenance Repair Program and World Changers/Community Changers
    First time home buyers program
    Infrastructure - Construction of sewer, drainage, street and sidewalks in qualifying neighborhoods

    Recreation Projects

    Construction and rehabilitation of neighborhood parks and other community facilities in qualifying neighborhoods.

    Code Enforcement

    Enforcement of City ordinances related to the following:
    Unsafe buildings
    Substandard housing
    Junk and litter
    Tall grass and weeds
    Inoperative motor vehicles on right of way
    Abatement of public nuisances.
    Graffiti
    Fences
    Swimming Pools

    Economic Empowerment

    Grants and loans to projects which increase the economic well being of lower income residents and residents of lower income neighborhoods.

    Special Needs

    Grants and loans to support projects which benefit population groups identified as having special needs.

    CITY OF HUNTSVILLE - NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
    The Community Development Department of the City of Huntsville has completed its Draft Version of the Consolidated Plan for 2010 - 2015 and it's 2010 - 2011 Draft Annual Action Plan. Draft copies of these reports may be reviewed by the public on line at www.huntsvilleal.gov/comdev/ and at the Community Development Office. Written comments concerning these documents should be received in the office no later than April 30, 2010. Mail your comments to: Community Development Department, P.O. Box 308, Huntsville, AL. 35804. Community Development is located in the Yarbrough Office Center, 120 E. Holmes Avenue. For further information call 256-427-5400.

    NUISANCE PROPERTY LIENS

    The properties listed were in violation of the City of Huntsville Nuisance Codes for grass and weeds, junk and litter, or housing code violations. The owners either failed or refused to voluntarily comply and the City had to abate the nuisance and place a lien against the property.
