Huntsville Department of Public Safety Holds Promotion and Recognition Ceremony
Huntsville, Alabama (February 22, 2008) Public Safety Director Rex Reynolds announced today that several Huntsville Police and Fire Fighters will be promoted Friday during a 2:00 p.m. ceremony in the Public Safety Training room at 815 Wheeler Avenue.
Reynolds said, “We are proud of your accomplishments and encourage you to continue to climb your perspective career ladders through hard work, education and dedication to your co-workers and the citizens of Huntsville.” He added, “I encourage the families of the people being recognized today to support them during good times and times of crises.” Mayor Loretta Spencer and Reynolds joined Huntsville Fire & Rescue Chief Danny Loggins as he promoted Michael D. Dodson and Hubert A. Stewart to the rank of Captain.
Huntsville Police Chief Henry Reyes promoted four Officers to the rank of Investigator. Reyes and Reynolds congratulated Michael Johnson; David Mullins; Timothy Royster and Timothy Wallace on their new duties. Other recognitions by Chief Reyes are as follows:
Medal of Honor: While working an accident at Bailey Cove Road and Weatherly Road on Friday, December 14, 2007, Officer Eric Freeman was fatally shot. Officer Kevin Lambert exhibited extreme conspicuous bravery and courage above and beyond the call of duty in restraining and apprehending the shooter who had critically wounded his friend and fellow Officer.
Meritorious Service Medal: During the 2007 hiring process for Police Officer, Sgt. Jerry King and Training Officer Chris Hluzek recommended using radio and television for recruiting. The slogan used was, “This Is My Shield”. The advertising increased the website average from 8,500 to 10,000 hits per month, which resulted in an increase of applications from 250 to 500.
Meritorious Service Medal: Officer Billy Clardy was injured in the line of duty while trying to arrest a suspect. Despite undergoing surgery, Officer Clardy was able to identify the suspect who was arrested and charged with Assault several days later.
Operations Bureau Supervisor of the Year: Investigation Sgt. Jack Pugh.
Operations Bureau Officer of the Year: Investigator David Williams.
Administrative Bureau Supervisor of the Year: Training Sgt. Jerry King.
Administrative Bureau Employee of the Year: Mrs. Susan Hale.
