Huntsville Police, “No Fireworks Allowed in City Limits.”
Huntsville, Alabama (July 2, 2008) Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said the Police Department will strictly enforce a Huntsville ordinance that makes it unlawful for any person to use, possess, display, or sell fireworks within the city limits. Johnson said anyone caught violating the city ordinance over the long 4th of July weekend, or anytime, is subject to having their fireworks seized and destroyed by Police.
Johnson said in some cases, Police might confiscate fireworks and leave citizens with a warning. In more severe cases, individuals can be arrested and face jail time and/or fines upon conviction. Johnson said the minimum fines and penalties upon first conviction is $100.00 or imprisonment for not more than ten days. For conviction upon a second offense committed within a year, an individual faces a fine of $200.00 and jail time for up to 30 days. A third or subsequent offense could lead to a fine of $500.00 or imprisonment for up to 3 months.
Huntsville Fire Chief Danny Loggins reminds citizens there is a burn ban in place until October 31st and recommends attending one of the fireworks events conducted by trained, licensed professionals.
The Department of Public Safety wishes everyone a safe and happy 4th of July!
