New Business Guide Information
All City business owners are encouraged to contact their advisors about all potential tax matters; however, business licensees should:
- Notify the Finance Department of the date sales tax collection begins.
- File tax returns at least annually. If you have questions about your filing requirements, contact the Finance Department.
- Notify the Finance Department of business information changes, including closure of the business.
- If a business is sold, it is the responsibility of the purchaser of the business (successor) to pay any outstanding tax liabilities incurred by the previous owner.
- Contact the state and counties in which you conduct business in order to determine if you should register to collect or remit their tax.
- The State of Alabama Department of Revenue offers new business workshops on a regular basis. Click here for a listing of scheduled workshops.
Information about 2011 Tax Forms
The City of Huntsville will not mail pre-printed tax forms due January 20, 2011 or later.
You have the following options to file your City of Huntsville Tax Returns:
Option 1: E-FILE
Sales - Use - Rental - Lodging tax returns can be filed electronically through the Alabama Paperless Filing System. There is NO TRANSACTION FEE to use this service.
Option 2: Download tax forms from this website
You can complete your tax return forms from our website and print them for mailing. Your completed tax form and check payable to City Clerk-Treasurer should be mailed to the address below:

Please note: For taxpayers that do not have computer access, forms are available for pick up in the Tax Administration office located at 308 Fountain Circle Huntsville, AL 35801.
