WHO DOES A DEPARTMENT GET HELP FROM WHEN
THEY WANT TO BUILD A NEW FACILITY OR REMODEL AN EXISTING BUILDING?
In the City of
Huntsville – the answer is Facilities Projects. This department
is staffed with Construction Project Managers trained in all aspects of
construction and skilled in developing and coordinating new and remodeled
construction jobs.
WHO ARE THE CUSTOMERS FOR FACILITIES
PROJECTS?
The major customers
for Facilities Projects are other City of Huntsville Departments,
who have been funded for major capital improvements. For some Customers
the opportunity to remodel an office or build a new facility comes only
once or twice in a career. The professional Construction Project
Manager’s skills in the construction business enable the Customer
Department to concentrate on its primary department goals, while leaving
the day-to-day construction issues in capable Construction Project
Managers’ hands. Other departments (like the Department of Recreation
and Landscape Management) are “regular customers” as Facilities
Projects each year works with them to manage the park and recreation
improvements funded by the Capital Improvements Project budget.
DOES FACILITIES PROJECTS WORK WITH
NON-CITY GROUPS?
Yes! The City of
Huntsville is represented by Facilities Projects in construction
projects and developments involving City Departments and
Entrepreneurs/Developers. We also work with the Downtown
Redevelopment Agency and Public Building Authority. When requested,
Facilities Projects also handles construction bidding and project
management for city-funded agencies (like Constitution Hall Village,
Historic Huntsville Depot, Ice Complex, and Convention and Visitors
Bureau.)
One of our biggest jobs recently was
coordination with Inkana and the Downtown Redevelopment Association to
build the Garage in the Colonial Bank Building. This Garage now
provides parking facilities for the City of Huntsville employees. The
Parking Division and Facilities Projects continue to work with
other Developers interested in building new projects which could include a
parking garage in the downtown area.
