How Do I Get Involved?

The HATS/MPO considers public involvement as a very important part of the transportation planning process, and values the input of citizens as well as affected agencies and organizations. If you want to know more about transportation planning decisions made in the Huntsville metropolitan area and if you want to give us your input, there are several ways for you to get involved:

  • Attend an MPO Meeting. The best forum for voicing your concerns and to provide input is the Citizen's Advisory Committee Meeting. The Citizens Advisory Committee meetings and the Metropolitan Planning Organization meetings are open to the public.

  • View Currently Planned Road Projects. Do you want to know if a road is planned for construction in your neighborhood or will affect your commute to work or school? View our Transportation Improvement Program (a list of road projects scheduled to be constructed during the next five years) and the Long Range Transportation Plan (a list of projects to be undertaken within the next 25 years).

  • Review Transportation Plans Available for Public Review and Comment. Before a plan is adopted by the Metropolitan Planning Organization, the HATS/MPO staff makes the plan available for public review and comment online as well as various locations throughout Huntsville-Madison County. A list of these locations is available online. To see plans that are available for public review and comment, visit the main page, and look under MPO News and Public Notices.

  • E-mail or call the staff. We will respond to your questions and concerns the best that we can. Our phone number is 427-5100.

  • View the Public Participation Plan. The document was adopted by the MPO, and tells how public involvement activities will be conducted within the MPO's planning boundaries.

  • Attend a Public Involvement Meeting Concerning a Specific Road Project or Transportation Plan. Periodically, the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) holds public involvement meetings to gather public response. These are typically held during two occasions: To display a listing of planned and funded transportation projects like the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program, or to view a specifically designed and planned transportation improvement via maps or other visualization techniques. These meetings are announced by ALDOT through the local news media, and we do our best to list these meetings on our main webpage as a courtesy, under MPO News and Public Notices.
