Chief, Mayor, Officer Wellman Receives Officer of the Year

        46th (Lateral) Graduation

The Huntsville Police Academy recently graduated five new officers Friday, January 28th 2005, in Courtroom A, at the Municipal Justice Safety Center.  The laterals just completed the three-week classroom portion at the academy, which included local laws and ordinances, firearms and defensive tactics, verbal judo, and police courtesy.

The ceremony began with Lt. Kirk Giles, Director of Training, welcoming those in attendance and Sgt. Ken Brooks, Training Supervisor, presenting the laterals to the public.

Chief Reynolds congratulated the laterals and family members and Mayor Loretta Spencer performed the swearing in ceremony.  The newest officers will begin the FTO (Field Training Officer) phase (patrolling with HPD officers) next Monday and continue for the next twelve weeks.

Chief Reynolds's staff, and several seasoned HPD Officers were also present and together, along with many proud family members and friends, gave a round of applause at the conclusion of the badge pinning ceremony.
