The Huntsville Police Department currently receives grant funding from various sources, including Federal and State agencies. Our department strives to obtain grant funding to provide resources that are not able to be funded from local general funding.
As of January 1, 2008, the Huntsville Police Department is currently operating from the following grants:
1) Name of
Grant: FY 2006 Youth Gang and Crime Prevention Program
Granting Agency:
Department of Justice- Bureau of Justice Assistance
Amount: $246,807
*This grant will provide for youth gang
involvement and crime prevention within the Huntsville City Schools, as well
as through the Serious Habitual Offender Comprehensive
Action Program.
2) Name of
Grant: FY 2006 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant
Granting Agency:
Department of Justice- Bureau of Justice Assistance
Amount: $104,004
*This grant will be shared with the Madison
County Commission. It will allow for the purchase of various computer and
equipment upgrades. It will also assist with funding the Gang Intervention
and Violence Education (GIVE) Program, conducted by the Madison County
District Attorney Office.
3) Name of
Grant: FY 2007 Strategic Counterdrug Team Grant
Granting Agency:
Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs, Law Enforcement
Traffic Safety Division
Amount: $300,000
*This grant will assist in funding the daily
operation of the Madison/Morgan County Drug Task Force.
