Commanded by Sergeant Ed Cain, the Major Crimes Unit is composed of three sections.  Homicide investigators are tasked with investigating all sex crimes and cases (other than traffic) involving death.  One of these investigators is responsible for tracking and maintaining the registration of convicted sex offenders.  Vehicular homicide investigators, who are assigned to the unit on a part-time basis, are responsible for the investigation of serious injury traffic accidents and all traffic accidents involving death.  The third component of the unit is Crime Scene.  These investigators collect evidence for and provide assistance to investigators from all three precincts as well as other Major Crimes investigators and the Domestic Violence Unit.
