Huntsville Police Warn Con Artists Working City
Huntsville, Alabama (April 27, 2007) The Huntsville Police Department has received several complaints concerning con-artists working the Huntsville area and Officers are warning citizens to be aware. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said they approached people, mainly older individuals selling items or package deals that are “too good to be true.” They were recently seen in West Huntsville near Rutledge Heights and Bonnell Drive. Johnson said this year they are selling bogus season tickets to the Atlanta Braves home games. They may also approach residents about remodeling jobs and home repairs asking for “money up front.”
Johnson said the men, normally white males 30 to 40 years of age, are well dressed, articulate and very convincing with their proposals. They are also not licensed to do business in the City. They stay in inexpensive hotels for about a week and after a few successful con games, they leave the city. If any citizens have information concerning these individuals, contact Huntsville Police at 722-7100.
