Huntsville Police Announce Checkpoints for Memorial Day Weekend
Huntsville, Alabama (May 25, 2007) The Huntsville Police Department’s DUI Task Force will set up checkpoints across the city Memorial Day weekend. Police Chief Henry Reyes announced today the Department’s enforcement initiative will involve the Task Force as well as Uniform Patrol Officers. The Memorial Day weekend enforcement begins Friday, May 25, 2007 from 6:00 p.m. and run through Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 3:30 a.m.
Chief Reyes said, “I have instructed Officers to strictly enforce all traffic laws in an effort to make our streets safer for our families. Preventing motorists from Driving under the Influence will be among our primary concerns. We strongly advise motorists not to drink and drive.” Under Alabama State law, a person over the age of 21 is legally intoxicated when they register .08 on the BAT. Juveniles are legally intoxicated at 02. Motorists will also be cited for the following violations: Failure to wear a seat belt, have a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and valid vehicle tags. Motorists should obey all posted speed limits, traffic signs and signals. The following are just a few locations being announced in advance by Huntsville Police.
