Short 4th of July Holiday Won’t Ease DUI Checkpoints
Huntsville, Alabama (June 28, 2007) The Huntsville Police Department’s DUI Task Force will set up checkpoints July 3rd and July 4th. Police Chief Henry Reyes said, “Officers will strictly enforce all traffic laws to prevent motorists from Driving under the Influence.” Under Alabama State Law, a person over the age of 21 is legally intoxicated when they register .08 on the BAT. Juveniles are legally intoxicated at .02. Motorists will also be cited for the following violations: Failure to wear a seat belt, failure to have a valid driver’s license, failure to have proof of insurance and valid vehicle tags.
Chief Reyes wants to remind citizens of the City ordinance that forbids the purchase and use of fireworks. He added, “Citizens may face arrest and possible fines if they shoot fireworks, especially under the current summer drought conditions.”
So far this year, the DUI Task Force has made 514 total arrests, indicating the Huntsville Police Department’s aggressive enforcement of DUI laws. The following are just a few of the locations being announced for checkpoints July 3rd and 4th between the hours of 11:30 pm and 3:30 am.
