Zero Tolerance for Motorists In Huntsville City School Zones
Huntsville, Alabama (August 9, 2007) Huntsville Police Chief Henry Reyes has instructed his Officers to strictly enforce all posted speed limits and other traffic laws at public and private school zones. The “Zero Tolerance” enforcement began when classes resumed this week. Reyes said motorists should allow for extra travel time and expect traffic delays and congestion around school zones. The Department’s Traffic Task Force, along with Officers from the three Precincts will monitor traffic and issue citations for “All” traffic violations.
Reyes said motorists should remember to obey the hand signals of Safety Patrol Aides who are working to protect our children and assist in traffic control. When a driver approaches an Aide directing traffic, and the front or back of the Aide is facing the driver that means come to a complete “STOP”. Drivers should also consider every child walking as a caution sign. Be aware of all school crossing walks and look out for children who may jump out from behind parked cars. Finally, all traffic should come to a complete “STOP” when a school bus loads and unloads students.
