Huntsville Police Serious About DUI Enforcement
Huntsville, Alabama (August 29, 2007) The Huntsville Police Department has released its locations for DUI enforcement over the Labor Day weekend, along with some sobering statistics. According to Police Chief Henry Reyes, the DUI Task Force has made a total of 659 arrests, from January 1, 2007 through August 5, 2007. The Task Force accounts for 75% of all DUI arrests made by HPD. As of August 10, 2007, the entire Department made a total of 878 DUI arrests.
The DUI Task Force will set up checkpoints from Friday, August 31, 2007 and run through Tuesday, September 4, 2007. The checkpoints will be set up from 11:30 p.m. until 3:30 a.m. Reyes said his Officers will also monitor motorists to ensure they observe the posted speed limits, along with traffic signals and signs. Motorists should also make certain they have a valid drivers’ license, proof of insurance and updated vehicle registration. Most importantly, all passengers should be wearing seatbelts. The checkpoints will be set up at the following locations;
South Memorial Parkway and Martin Road.
Jordan Lane and 9th Avenue.
Church Street and Pratt Avenue.
Pulaski Pike and Holmes Avenue.
North Memorial Parkway and Cox Avenue.
University Drive and Sparkman Drive.
