Police Release Route for Saturday’s Christmas Parade
Huntsville, Alabama (December 1, 2007) The parade will assemble in Lot K on Clinton Avenue, exit to travel east on Clinton Avenue, make a left turn to travel north, east then south on Monroe Street, make a right turn to travel west on Holmes Avenue, make a left turn to travel south on Jefferson Street, make a left turn to travel east on Williams Avenue, make a right turn and travel south on Adams Street and disband on Adams Street at Townsend Avenue.
Spokesman Wendell Johnson said all drivers should use extreme caution due to the large number of children anticipated in the downtown area due to the Christmas parade and the circus being held at the Von Braun Center. Traffic laws will be strictly enforced.
The westbound lanes of Clinton Avenue from Church Street and the northbound lanes of Monroe Street from Clinton Avenue will be closed at 11:00 AM. This will allow WAAY-TV 31 to set up their equipment for the telecast of the parade. All other roads will remain open downtown until shortly before the parade begins. Roadways will be closed in stages as the parade nears intersections. Motorists need to be aware there are circus performances scheduled at the VBC beginning at 11:00 a.m. and again at 3:00 p.m. Once the parade begins you can still enter the parking garage from Governors Drive by way of Monroe Street or Church Street. Access will be maintained to Lewter Hardware, Halsey Grocery and the bus station prior to the start of the parade at 12:00 noon. Access to these locations will be maintained after the parade starts by entering from and exiting to Governors Drive by way of Monroe Street or Church Street. Once the parade starts all people leaving the parking garage on Monroe Street are asked to leave south on Monroe Street or Church Street toward Governors Drive.
