Seniors Crime Prevention Academy Begins February 1st
Huntsville, Alabama (January 26, 2007) The Huntsville / Madison County Seniors Crime Prevention Academy is looking for students to attend its next session. Now in its 25th session, the academy has graduated more than 700 seniors since its inception 10 years ago. Academy Chairman Wendell Johnson said we still have room for about 25 more students for the 13 week program that begins February 1, 2007 and concludes April 26, 2007. The Academy is offered free to seniors.
The Academy is held every Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Training Center located at 3011 Sparkman Drive. The program is designed to teach seniors in the area of crime prevention, scams, con games, identity theft, gangs, drugs, fire safety and establish a closer relationship with law enforcement. Johnson said we are excited to offer some new classes including one being taught by Senior Special Agent Jim Lambert with the Department of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Also, Investigator Rachael Hopper with the District Attorney’s Office who specializes in Domestic Violence and Child Sex Crimes.
