Graduation Day for Ten New Officers With the Huntsville Police Department
Huntsville, Alabama (February 2, 2007) Huntsville Mayor Loretta Spencer will administer the oath of office to 10 new Huntsville Police Officers Friday morning. The 10 Officers were recruited from other law enforcement agencies for the Lateral Academy. They bring to the Department a total of 49 years of experience in law enforcement. Among the new Officers is David McDonald, who was a New Orleans Police Officer for 8 years until Hurricane Katrina hit. The crime and the natural disasters were his reasons for wanting to move his family to Huntsville.
Under Police Chief Rex Reynolds a total of 95 Officers have been hired within the Department over the last two years. The Chief, Mayor Spencer and the City Council have made recruiting a top priority. The Department has run back to back Academies to keep up with a growing community and to meet the demands for service when BRAC jobs arrive.
Chief Reynolds will also present the following awards to Huntsville Police Officers;
Certificate of Commendation to Sgt. Juan Joyner and Officer David Vaughn for extensive research in solving an ammunition problem.
Meritorious Service Medal to Officer David Hendricks that led to an arrest, solving a series of home invasion robberies and dismantling a cocaine trafficking operation.
Medal of Valor to Officers Stacy Bates, Marcus Hendrix, Jon Garner, Chris Hines and Kevin Mathews for rescuing two individuals from a burning vehicle.
