Huntsville has Two Traffic Fatalities for this Year
Huntsville, Alabama (April 9, 2008) Huntsville had its first traffic fatality for this year, and then hours later a pedestrian is hit and killed. Spokesman Wendell Johnson said the first fatality occurred at 7:00 p.m. last night on Old Madison Pike (between Quality Circle and Diamond Drive.) Omar Antonio Santiago, age 17, of 166 Silo Hill Road in Madison was the only occupant in a 1998 Ford Expedition when his vehicle left the road and struck a tree. Johnson said Santiago was traveling at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle.
The second fatality occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. last night on Memorial Parkway (between Drake Avenue and Regal Drive.) James Rodney Martin, age 50, of 122 Jana Lane in Hazel Green was attempting to cross Memorial Parkway when he was struck by a north bound vehicle. Martin and another woman were attempting to cross the Parkway when he stepped out into the path of a vehicle. The woman was not injured. Johnson said Huntsville Police want to remind citizens that several people have been killed crossing the Parkway instead of crossing at the intersections.
