Huntsville Police Announce Whistle Stop Street Closings
Huntsville, Alabama (April 30 2008) Huntsville Police announced the street closings for this weekend’s annual Whistle Stop Festival. Spokesman Wendell Johnson said the event will be held on the grounds of the Historic Downtown Huntsville Depot including surrounding streets and parking lots.
Johnson said the following streets will be closed starting 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 1, 2008: The outside northbound lane of Church Street starting at the railroad tracks to 100 feet south of Monroe Street. Monroe Street between Church Street and Jefferson Street, Spragins Street between Church Street and Jefferson Street, Spragins Street between Monroe Street and Holmes Avenue. The right turn lane of Jefferson Street from the eastbound I-565 exit ramp to Monroe Street is also included. All streets will be re-opened by 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, 2008.
Johnson said the Whistle Stop Festival will be open to the public on Friday, May 2nd from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 3rd from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. Johnson added while the family festival has had no previous problems, Police encourage motorists to use parking lots that are well lit, ensure vehicles are locked and don’t leave valuable items in plain site inside your car. Lock them away inside of you trunk.
