Huntsville Police K-9 Team Take National “Top Dog” Honors
Huntsville, Alabama (May 22, 2008) When it comes to being #1 among local, state and federal law enforcement agencies across the country, Huntsville Police Sgt. Jeff Huskey and K-9 Isis are the best in sniffing out and finding explosives. The two competed at the USPCA National Trials in Cookeville, Tennessee May 18th – 21st. The explosive event consisted of searching hidden explosives in vehicles and buildings. Sgt. Huskey and Isis took First Place and won the national title. Eighty-three Detector Dog Teams were in the competition.
Huntsville Police Officers William Gray/K-9 Stryker and Joshua Balch/K-9 Cayden placed 31st and 33rd overall among Narcotics Search Teams. Finally, K-9 handler Mike Posey who served as a judge for the event was certified as a National Detector Judge.
Police Chief Henry Reyes said the Department is honored that our K-9 Unit competed against federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and earned honors among the best teams in the country. Reyes said, “Overall the event was an excellent experience and our Teams performed in an outstanding manner.”
A few years ago Lieutenant Mark McMurray and his K-9 Brandy won the honors two years in a row and were featured in Parade magazine.
