Police prepare for a busy day in downtown Huntsville on January 28th, 2009
Huntsville, Alabama (January 21, 2009):
The “Get Motivated” business seminar
is scheduled for Wednesday January 28th and could easily draw 10,000
to 14,000 attendees to hear motivational speakers in a day-long live seminar at
the VBC. Several smaller events are also scheduled for that day at the VBC. To
ease the parking shortage downtown, the “Get Motivated” seminar will provide
free bus transportation to and from Joe Davis Stadium. Parking at Joe Davis
Stadium and downtown locations will cost $5. Buses from Joe Davis will
transport attendees free of charge to and from the event and run all day as
needed. Downtown city parking garages will be open; however, attendees are
encouraged to carpool and use the Joe Davis parking lot if possible. Busses
will shuttle attendees from Joe Davis Stadium to the Von Braun Center South Hall
starting at 6:30 am. These shuttles will run back and forth all day long and
will return everyone back to Joe Davis Stadium when the seminar concludes at
5:00 pm. Huntsville Police Traffic Task Force officers will maintain the flow
of traffic around the event and keep both the Parkway and I-565 traffic moving
throughout the day. The VBC staff, Huntsville Parking Department and the
Huntsville Police Department will collaborate to ensure a unified response to
address security, traffic and parking concerns for this event.
City parking spaces will be available at Monroe Street (Garage M), on Clinton
Avenue (Lot V) and at Clinton and Woodson (Lot K). Additional public parking
will be available underneath the south Hall of the VBC from Pollard Street (See
attached map of available parking lots). To speed up parking, attendees are
encouraged to have parking fees available upon entry to the lots.
