Huntsville Police Shoot And Kill Two Men
Huntsville, Alabama (December 3, 2006) An investigation is underway as a result of two men who were shot and killed by two Huntsville Police Officers, when the driver ran into a Police Officer. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said Huntsville Police were at the Labomba Mexican Restaurant at 3706 Governors Drive about 1:25 Sunday morning. While standing in the parking lot, officers heard one vehicle crash into another vehicle. As the Officers moved to stop the vehicle, one of the officers was struck by the vehicle when the driver attempted to run over him. The Officer was not seriously injured. As a result, the driver of the vehicle and the passenger were shot and killed by two Huntsville Police Officers. Police are withholding the names of the two Hispanic males pending notification of family members.
Johnson said the case is being investigated by the Department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Office of Internal Affairs. Once the investigation is completed, Chief Rex Reynolds will order a Shooting Review Board to look at the facts and determine if the Officers actions were within departmental policy. The board includes representatives from the City Attorney’s Office, the Madison County District Attorney’s Office as well as Officers within the Department. The two Officers have been placed on three days of administrative leave which is standard departmental policy for Police involved shootings.
