Huntsville Police Release Names in Restaurant Shooting
Huntsville, Alabama (December 18, 2006) Investigators with the Huntsville Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit have charged 21-year-old Jamal Roydrick Woods of Huntsville with the murder of 21-year-old Tanqueray Lavonacheke Beavers of Athens. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said also wounded in the shooting is 27-year-old Thurston Duran Turner, of Athens, 24-year-old Autora Frias Rogers of Athens and 33-year-old William Timothy Reliford of Hazel Green. Investigators have not released information surrounding the condition of the three men.
The four men were shot at TGI Friday's Restaurant located at 4935 University Drive in West Huntsville. Johnson said at 9:10 p.m. Sunday, Woods became angry when another customer of the restaurant was looking at his female companion. According to witnesses, Woods approached the man, asked him a question, then pulled out a gun and allegedly shot Beavers and three others.
Johnson said Woods and three of his friends
left the table and fled the scene. Woods left in his vehicle, but his
friends were tracked by an HPD K-9 Team to a local hotel. They were detained
and questioned. Hours later, Woods was apprehended by Officers in a vehicle
in South Huntsville, questioned and booked into the Madison County Metro
Jail. Johnson said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could
be filed.
