Chief Reynolds Requests Review Board look at Second Shooting

Huntsville, Alabama (July 26 2005) Huntsville Police Chief Rex Reynolds has requested an Incident Review Board look into Monday night’s shooting of 33-year-old Marvin Conley by a Huntsville Police Officer. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said Conley was fatally shot when he allegedly became aggressive and threatened Officers as they tried to arrest him. The incident occurred about 4:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Arbor Park Apartments located at 4401 Spartacus Drive. Johnson said the State Department of Forensic Sciences along with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department Crime Scene Unit assisted in the investigation at the scene.

Police Chief Rex Reynolds has requested that an Incident Review Board look into the shooting of Conley to determine if the officers followed departmental policy and procedure in the use of deadly force. The investigation is ongoing involving the shooting of 21-year-old Christopher Hundley last week, when he allegedly attempted to run over the narcotics agents with his vehicle. When Hundley is released from a local hospital, he’ll face 4 counts of Attempted Murder and felony drug charges.

Reynolds said, “Both shootings will be investigated separately and independent of one another, to determine the facts in each case. Once the investigations are complete, I’ll be able to provide more information surrounding the incidents.” The two officers involved in the shooting are on administrative duties today.

Johnson said the Major Crimes Unit along with the Internal Affairs Division would conduct their investigations and turn their findings over to the Incident Review Board. Representatives on the Board include Huntsville Police Supervisors and Officers, along with the Madison County District Attorney’s Office and the Huntsville City Attorney’s Office.
