Kiwanis Club Selects Ranger of the Year
Huntsville, Alabama (August 18, 2005) The Huntsville Kiwanis will recognize the Huntsville Police Department’s Ranger of the Year tonight. Jessica Newey will be given the award Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Green Hills Grille. Newey who attends Wallace State College in Dothan has a GPA of 3.6. She plans to transfer to Calhoun Community College in the near future. Since joining the Huntsville Police Department Ranger program in July 2004, Newey has accumulated nearly 500 hours working with other Officers and special duty assignments.
Police Chief Rex Reynolds, a former Ranger like other present Huntsville Police Officers, is extremely proud of Newey’s accomplishments. He said, “Our Ranger program not only serves the public and assist our Officers, it has proven to be a great method of recruiting qualified Officers for our Department. I want to congratulate both Ranger Newey and Training Officer Bonnie Maciorski, coordinator of the Ranger program, for a job well done.” The Ranger program recruits teenagers between the ages of 16 and 20 who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Interested applicants can contact Officer Maciorski at the Huntsville Police Academy at 746-4407.
