Driver Charged in Hit And Run of Pedestrians 

Huntsville, Alabama (August 25, 2005) Twenty-four-year-old Austin Gregory Roberts of Gurley is in the Madison County Metro Jail this morning, charged with 2 counts of Assault and one count of Felony Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Roberts was traveling west on University Drive when he allegedly struck two female pedestrians as they were crossing the intersection at Julia Street about 8:00 p.m. Thursday night. Roberts fled the accident scene and was caught minutes later on Jordan Lane by Huntsville Police. 

Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said 46-year-old Deon Allen Franklin and 19-year-old Karelle Franklin of New Rochelle, NY, were taken to Huntsville Hospital in critical condition.
