Police Impersonators Charged With Robbery After Chase
Huntsville, Alabama (September 8, 2005) Two Huntsville men are in the Madison County Metro Jail this morning, after they allegedly robbed two other men using bail bondsmen badges, handcuffs and a BB gun. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said 18-year-old Ryan Daniel Nelson (2102 Virginia Blvd NW) and 27-year-old Chad Ryan Hereford (2211 Pizitz Drive) are charged with First Degree Robbery and Impersonating a Peace Officer.
Johnson said shortly after 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night, Huntsville Police Officer Timothy Allison was northbound on Memorial Parkway at Bob Wallace when he observed two vehicles speeding about 90 mph. Despite Allison lights and sirens, they continued speeding taking the I-565 east ramp. He observed the Volkswagen Jetta ram the Chrysler Concord. Eventually both vehicles stopped and all four men with the help of police backup were handcuffed during questioning.
Further investigation revealed that Nelson and Hereford allegedly robbed two males of $530.00 in the parking lot at the Liberty Gas station on Drake Avenue. The two flashed their badge, search their Jetta and took the money from an ashtray. Nelson and Hereford fled and that’s when the chase began. The driver of the Jetta was also arrested.
