The Community Events division of the Recreation Department both coordinates and provides support for a wide range of recreational activities for people of all ages.

The summer sizzles with activities beginning with the Wally Vess Youth Fishing Rodeo - 2008 Results. On the first Saturday in June parents can spend quality time with their children as they fish to catch the big one. Beginning the first Monday in June, kicks off the Concerts in the Park series with live music for the entire family in Big Spring Park ( Big Spring Jam Parking - Video) for 14 weeks during the summer. As summer turns to fall, lace up your running shoes and participate in the Big Spring Jam 5K Run and Fun Run.

The Community Events division also provides much needed support to many local special interest organizations. They assist the Rocket City Marathon, Cotton Row Run, Veterans Day Parade, community block parties, and many other local events by providing equipment set-ups which helps to make these events more successful. Community Events is also responsible for scheduling the Jaycee Community Building. This is a 12,000 sq. ft. facility that is available year round to host trade shows, charitable fundraisers, class reunions, and a wide range of other private or public gatherings. Community Events also oversees the Trey Wilbourn Flying Field, and the Cross Country Running Park.

If you would like information on scheduling the Jaycee Community Building please contact Eric Enchelmayer at eric.enchelmayer@hsvcity.com or 883-3728.

For more information about renting the fairgrounds or if you are planning an event and would like to know more about the City's requirements contact Mrs. Lou Hovatter at lou.hovatter@hsvcity.com or 883-3708.
