Becoming a steward at the Hays Nature Preserve can be fun and provides exercise.
Plus you can learn a lot about the environment while working.
Your time is not only an investment in being a steward of the Preserve, it has all sorts of healthful benefits for you!
Stewards are like naturalists – they care about the environment and so learn while they are in it.
You can absorb the environment like a sponge out here.
These are some of the stewardship projects we have:
Walking trails and reporting obstructions, and picking up trash.
Assisting with special events, such as Earth Day or the History Festival
Helping cut or pull privet – an exotic invasive plant that is taking over the forest.
Creating new trails and marking trails with signage.
Restoring areas to native plants from wildflowers to trees.
Developing flyers for special events.
Taking photos.
We are open to suggestions.
