In the oxygen- and nutrient-rich Aeration Basin, microbes consume organic matter, grow, and multiply. Excess and dead microbes, removed from the process at the Final Clarifier, are dewatered on Drying Beds. The result is dried Biosolids. The dried Biosolids serve one last useful purpose: each year, WPC hauls over 4,700 tons of dried Biosolids to the Waste-to-Energy Facility for incineration. The Biosolids help to generate steam for Redstone Arsenal.
