Water Pollution Control

Projects

WPC's work was far from done in June 2005 when we completed our EPA-mandated self assessment.  The real work had just begun.  The findings of the assessment lead to a series of projects to improve the wastewater collection and treatment systems.

Details of those projects will be refined in an ongoing development and review process.  However, that the plans will include these components:

  • sewer line rehabilitation

  • sewer line replacements

  • manhole rehabilitation

  • wastewater treatment improvements

  • trunk sewer inspection and cleaning

Current Projects

Preliminary Engineering Report & Cost Estimates

FY 2007 CWSRF Loan Program for City of Huntsville

Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Surveys for Spring Branch, Aldridge Creek, and Big Cove Service Basins - Phase II

Project will consist of conducting Flow Isolations, Smoke Testing, Manhole Inspections, and Wet Weather Testing.  Project will identify areas that contribute to Inflow/Infiltration.

Probable Cost Estimate: $300,000

Large Diameter Line Cleaning for Spring Branch and Aldridge Creek Sanitary Sewer Basins.

Project will consist of cleaning all Large Diameter Sanitary Sewer Interceptors (24" to 48").  Approximately 125,000 LF of Sanitary Sewer Interceptors will be cleaned within the project.

Probable Cost Estimate: $700,000

Sewer Rehabilitation in Aldridge Creek  Service Basin - Phase II (Project 1, 2, & 3)

Project will consist of performing sewer rehabilitation within the Aldridge Creek Service Basin as identified by SSES reports.  Methods of rehabilitation will include pipe bursting, cure-in-place pipe lining, manhole rehabilitation, and total sewer replacement.  Method of sewer rehabilitation will vary depending on results and recommendations from the SSES performed under the 2006 SRF Loan.

Probable Cost Estimate: $1,000,000

Sewer Rehabilitation in Spring Branch  Service Basin - Phase II (Project 1, 2, & 3)

Sewer Rehabilitation in Big Cove Service Basin - Phase II (Project 1, & 2)

Project will consist of performing sewer rehabilitation within the Big Cove Service Basin as identified by SSES reports.  Methods of rehabilitation will include pipe bursting, cure-in-place pipe lining, and manhole rehabilitation. Method of sewer rehabilitation will vary depending on results and recommendations from the SSES performed under the 2007 SRF Loan.

Probable Cost Estimate: $1,000,000

FY 2006 CWSRF Loan Program for City of Huntsville

Pump Station SCADA System Upgrade

Project to consist of upgrading Pump Station SCADA system for all pump stations within the collection system. Project will aide in preventing possible SSO's by allowing greater response time during pump station outages and monitoring pump stations performance and activities.

Probable Cost Estimate: $750,000

Aldridge Creek WWTP Improvements

Project will provide upgrades to the headworks, the wastewater RAS/WAS building, additional covered sludge drying beds for sludge disposal, and various yard piping modifications.

Probable Cost Estimate: $1,300,000

2 MGD Upgrade to the Big Cove WWTP

Project will provide upgrades to the headworks, the addition of a 2 MGD oxidation ditch and final clarifier, upgrade to disinfection facility, and additional covered drying beds for sludge disposal.

Probable Cost Estimate: $6,600,000

Permanent Backup Power for Pump Stations - Phase I

Project will consist of providing permanent backup power to major pump stations within the collection system. Phase I shall include the following pump stations: Bob Wallace, Squaw Valley, and Indian Creek This project will aide in addressing and preventing SSO problems due to power outages at pumping stations.

Probable Cost Estimate: $300,000

Chemical Root Control Application for Spring Branch and Aldridge Creek Sanitary Sewer Basins

Project will consist of applying chemical root control to sanitary sewer lines (Approx. 300,000 LF) within the Spring Branch and Aldridge Creek Sanitary Basins. Areas within these sanitary sewer basins that are scheduled for the Chemical Root Control Application will be based on Department of Water Pollution Control's Root Database.

Probable Cost Estimate: $2,500,000

Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Surveys (SSES) for Spring Branch and Aldridge Creek - Phase I

Project will consist of conducting Flow Isolations, Smoke Testing, Manhole Inspections, and Wet Weather Testing. Project will identify areas that contribute to Inflow/Infiltration. This project will be the basis for determining specific areas for rehabilitation on Project #7.

Probable Cost Estimate: $550,000

Sewer Rehabilitation in Aldridge Creek and Spring Branch Basins

Project will consist of performing sewer rehabilitation in areas identified by SSES reports. Methods of rehabilitation shall consist of CIPP lining, pipe bursting, manhole rehabilitation and/or dig and replacement of sewer lines. Results from data obtained in Project #6 of this FY06 loan will determine the method of rehabilitation.

Probable Cost Estimate: $2,200,000

Squaw Valley Parallel Interceptor

Project will consist of providing additional capacity to the existing Spring Branch Sewer Basin by constructing a parallel sanitary sewer interceptor (Approx. 4,500 LF).

Probable Cost Estimate: $800,000

Spring Branch WWTP - Upgrades to Influent Pump Station and Chlorination Facility

Project will consist of providing new influent pumps, controls, and permanent backup power to the Influent Pump Station Building. Also new chlorination equipment will be installed in the existing chlorination building.

Probable Cost Estimate: $1,000,000
